Itinerary

Baina beach is recognised for its impressive nightlife and plethora of water sports and adventure activities. However, many tourists are now taking fancy for dolphin trips that are organised by the local boat owners in the region. These interesting trips provide an excellent opportunity to tourists to view beautiful dolphins flipping about in the sea in the early mornings. There are many agencies and boat owners that conduct such trips for small groups at the Baina beach.

Dolphins are generally peace loving creatures and are easily disturbed by foreign sounds and bodies. Hence they are wary of any kind of sound or creature in their territory. For this reason, expert dolphin spotters advise the switching off of the boat’s engine and also discourage visitors from screaming or shouting on spotting a dolphin. The best time to go for dolphin spotting in Goa is between October and May. The early hours of the morning are usually the best time for spotting these lovely creatures as this is the time when they are closest to the shore. During the rest of the day, they delve deeper into the sea and cannot be seen.

The trips conducted at Baina beach last for about 40 to 45 minutes and are usually conducted in small groups. Boat owners ensure that the visitors have an enjoyable time spotting dolphins and hence tread ahead into the waters if no dolphins are spotted near the shore. Visitors are provided with life jackets and refreshments aboard the boats.

To ensure the safety of all visitors, two expert operators are deployed aboard every boat that ventures into the waters in search of dolphins. The route taken for dolphin spotting passes through many picturesque places and visitors can view beautiful buildings and monuments such as forts, islands, the Hansa beach and the Japanese beach garden.

Dolphin spotting trips are held throughout the 110 km stretch of the Goan coastline. The most popular beaches where such trips are held include the Calangute, the Agonda, the Candolim, Baga, Palolem etc, apart from the Baina beach. The dolphins found in Goa belong to the Indo-Pacific Humpback Dolphins species which can easily be recognised by their prominent humps and elongated dorsal fins.
